The Myth Of Being Photogenic For Your Portrait Session
Not being photogenic is actually a good thing.
Have you ever looked at someone else’s beautiful maternity photos and thought, “Wow, well, she’s very photogenic, and I’m just not.” The truth is that she probably felt the exact same way before her photo session. I hear from mamas (and their partners) all the time that they would love to have professional maternity portraits taken but worry that they’re not photogenic enough.
Your body goes through many changes during pregnancy in a short period of time. It’s a lot to adjust to, and perfectly normal to worry about your rapidly changing appearance. I’m here to tell you that you are enough. Yep, just the way you are right now. You will look back at your maternity portraits and be in awe of the life you created with your body. I serve real mamas, and we document their real pregnancies through full-service portrait sessions.
Let’s break down the myth of being photogenic, and how I’m here to guide you through the process of documenting your pregnancy.
No One Is Really Photogenic
I actually don’t think anyone is truly photogenic. Okay, maybe some of our favourite celebrities seem that way, but that’s after years of looking at themselves in a mirror, working with a glam team every day, and practicing their best angles. You are a real person. Your portrait session is a celebration of you and your growing family. As long as you come to the session ready to let it all go and enjoy the moment with your loved ones, your images will turn out beautifully. You can trust in the process of a full-service session.
How Full-Service Portrait Photography Serves Everyone
Maybe you’re still unsure how full-service portrait photography could help you feel more photo-ready.
Wardrobe - Have you ever looked in your closet and thought to yourself, “I have nothing to wear.” With my client wardrobe, you don’t have to worry about digging through your closet or spending time shopping to find an outfit that you like. During our session planning, you’ll come to the studio and choose from our growing collection. All of our pieces are carefully selected, so we have options for every mama.
Hair and Makeup for Mom - I mentioned how celebrities always look so amazing because they have a glam team. Well, with the full-service process, moms are pampered with professional hair and makeup before the session. My hair and makeup artist uses techniques and styles that amplify your beauty. You’ll look and feel as beautiful as you truly are.
Peaceful, Fun Environment - I actually think this might be the most important. On the day of the session, we’re not in a rush, and we’re not forcing any unnatural poses. Once you and your partner arrive at the studio, it’s time to relax and soak in this moment with them. You can leave everything to me. While I gently guide you and your partner into different poses, you’re only job is to just enjoy and savour this special moment with each other. I’ll be there to document each smile, each hug, and every loving moment. I want you to remember what you were talking about just before I took that beautiful shot. For example, I might ask dad to tell mom one thing about her that he loves so much.
Image Reveal - After such a beautiful session, how could every image not turn out perfectly? The image reveals are some of my favourite moments because I get to share your portraits with you and watch you realize how beautiful and happy, you and your partner are. We’ll print your favourites so that you can truly remember how you felt at that moment.
Share Any Concerns With Your Photographer
If you have any concerns, please share them with me, and I will listen without judgment. I always capture every mama, every couple, and every family in the very best light. However, if you are feeling nervous because of something in particular, just let me know. I’m happy to ensure that you feel cared for and supported throughout the process.
