There’s always something new to learn
Growing a business is sometimes like raising a child. Each stage and new milestone has so much to teach us.
In January, I had the privilege of attending a photography workshop at a bed and breakfast in Anna Maria Island, Florida. I’ve always believed that learning never stops. So when this workshop was offered in conjunction with a mentorship program I’ve participated in since 2021, I jumped at the opportunity!
As a business owner, there are always things I can improve to make the customer experience better. And as a photographer, sometimes I can feel a bit stuck creatively. It’s so helpful to learn from other professionals, and discover new, innovative ways to do things.

I want to serve and care for mothers the best way I can, which means there is always room for improvement.
Even though I’ve been a photographer for 17 years, I never stop learning. In a creative field like photography, things are always changing and challenging me to grow.
I’m always reaching for the next thing, striving to be the best I can be. That’s what being an expert means. In this space, we’re always learning to be more creative and serve people better.
We all gathered in beautiful Anna Maria Island to learn from each other, as well as unwind a bit and enjoy the sunshine. We bonded over games and a sunset boat cruise. We spent time watching Brittany and Leigh photograph and edit sessions. Another day, we had a styled family shoot out on the beach near our bed and breakfast.
I chose to stay behind the scenes and document the process. It was fascinating to stand back and watch all these expert photographers take different images of the same family. All their pictures turned out uniquely. They have different perspectives, shooting at different angles with the light filtering in through the lenses in different ways.
Each photographer's style showcased different characteristics and emotions from the family members. I felt so inspired, watching everyone help tell this family’s story.
We are all experts in our field. We improve our businesses constantly to capture your family’s story. But we still have different visions and perspectives. It’s so important to choose a photographer whose perspective and style you resonate with. We’re helping you tell your story, after all. So much preparation and intention going into your session, you want to make sure you’re choosing the person whose vision matches yours best!
My passion to serve and care for mothers along their maternal journeys is what drives me to be the best photographer I can be.
Capturing your story and sharing its beauty with you is just one part of the photography process. By offering wrap-around services to your session, I’m there to help you through every part of the plan.
My biggest takeaway from the workshop: the value of streamlining my plan and process from start to finish. My goal is to provide a relaxing and luxurious photo experience — this means creating and improving my process to
prepare for the shoot with your vision in mind
organize and provide hair, makeup and wardrobe
guide the session to get all the right shots, shoot for the product we’re creating, and leave room for fun
help you design custom artwork from your favourite memories
I learned some amazing tips to make the session experience even more seamless and truly stress-free for my clients.
My biggest takeaway from the experience as a whole: the value of having a network of photographers and business women to provide advice is infinite! I not only came away with priceless insights, but also the knowledge that we’re each blessed with a unique perspective through our camera lenses.
We may have different perspectives, but no perspective is better or worse than another. We all shine in our own ways.
