Family Spotlight: the Chakjas
The wonderful Chakja family returned to the studio this past January to welcome their newest addition, Bryce Alexander. Jayde was here in 2021 for a stunning and playful maternity session with her husband, Steve, and their oldest child, Sophia.
To celebrate the arrival of little Bryce, we captured sweet and attentive moments from Sophia with him. We followed my baby-led approach, feeding, cuddling and changing him as necessary during the shoot. We used his pacifier to soothe him — it’s even hidden in a few of his best photos!
They chose to share these beautiful memories with friends and family by sending out this birth announcement.

The first weeks of Baby’s life are very sleepy, of course. It’s the time for lots of snuggling while getting to know your little one. Try to capture and remember how small their hands, feet and toes are.
There are some little things your baby will do that are so precious, you’ll want to treasure them forever. Their little yawns, or when they hold on tight to your finger. These reflexes are strong in the first few months, and Baby grasps onto any object placed into the palm of their little hand.
The bond between siblings is magical.
Every milestone in your baby’s first year will fill you with joy. But it is a uniquely joyous feeling to see their big brother or sister start to watch over and care for them.
The bond between siblings is such an integral part of your family’s story. Big sister experiences so much wonder, curiosity and love while they hold Baby. Little brother gets soothed and comforted by the close physical affection and warmth of their protector.
Beyond the newborn stage, at around 3 months, we enter the “enchanted months”.
At this age, Baby’s tummy muscles are starting to get stronger, and we begin to see them move around more to engage with their environment. But that’s not the only reason this milestone is so delightful. By this time, Baby falls into a more peaceful rhythm of sleep and eating.
Enjoy the relaxing moments with Baby softly sleeping in your arms, in their crib, in the car, or on your chest. Wherever they drift off, you know how calm and content they are.
The next thing you know, they’ll be wiggling and smiling to get your attention and show you that happiness!
Before you know it, your little newborn will be celebrating their first birthday.
Along the way, there will be so many exciting milestones as they grow and learn. You’ll see them learn to communicate through smiles and laughter. They’ll use their mouth to babble, blow raspberries, and explore objects (like their toes) until their fingers are more adept.
Soon enough, they’ll be approaching the one-year mark. Once they are crawling and standing up, they’ll use that independence to explore every part of the world around them.
