Niagara Midwives
Let me introduce you to the Niagara Midwives: primary care providers to help you through your motherhood journey. They’ve attended a multitude of births since their Niagara Region practice was established in 1997. The team supports mothers 24/7 from early pregnancy, to labour and birth, to postpartum.
I had the wonderful opportunity to install maternity and baby storywalls at their clinic in January. I used the midwives for all four of my children’s births — I had two births at home, and two in the hospital, all with their help. Their mission and care is close to my heart, and I was honoured to share stories of motherhood through new artwork on their walls.
I designed four storywalls, each featuring the story of a different family. We used shots in the maternity stage, of little newborns, as six-month-olds, and all the way up to 18 months!
Sharing stories
The beauty of photography is in capturing both the important moments, and the story that those moments represent. Through that camera lens, you can preserve the change that happens before your eyes: your child’s little nose, the shape of their ears, their dimples when they smile.
You can know that ten years from now your baby’s features will stay timeless and the important moments will always be with you. So you can enjoy being present in those moments when they come.
Creating artwork helps you tell your family story, growing over time. Through albums and storywalls, we can express a feeling, a memory, or a vision for the future. With these maternity and baby storywalls, our goal was to convey a beautiful vision of what to look forward to.
Pregnancy comes with so many possibilities. For me, the best way to prepare for and experience all those possibilities was with a midwife team by my side. They perform the same duties as a primary care provider, with all the care necessary for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.
I felt embraced and nurtured through the pregnancy and birth of each of my children. I think these storywalls will help other mothers feel the same way: welcome and excited about the arrival of their little one! I also wanted to include a free birth announcement offer with these storywalls. Anyone can pop in to grab one of these flyers and take it home!
