I find it so curious how many new parents tell me they have no idea what they’re doing – and yet, from my perspective, there you are! Figuring it out and doing it!
And honestly, it’s not because you’re doing it all perfectly (Want in on the secret? NONE of us are!). It’s because you’re doing all the moment-by-moment things to figure it out. A kiss on the forehead when they’re crying. Stroking their arm when they’re fast asleep. Speaking loving words to them even though they don’t know what you’re saying. It all matters Mama, even when they don’t see it.

Karin and Jameel are first time parents, and so naturally embracing their new roles as mother and father: nurturing, kissing, snuggling and soothing their baby girl.
We got the most charming shots of this family of three getting to know each other better during our session.
The Moments We Captured:
In the Saleem family newborn session, we captured all these important moments and so many more. We kept the shots really simple and free from props to get the minimalist look Karin and Jameel were looking for.
One of my all time favourites of newborn photography is having both parents each holding Baby and looking down at her, in total awe of their new baby.
And I mean, that perfect little baby yawn….
Their Wardrobe:
Those little acts of love are just as important for mothers as they are for babies! And I can help with that when you sign up for your newborn session.
First of all, just like Karin, I will send my hair and makeup artist to your house before the session so you can show up feeling amazing (without having to lift a finger!).
And to help you out with wardrobe, I’ve curated a whole collection of stunning apparel for the whole family to choose from!
This off-the-shoulder sienna rose-coloured dress is a top pick in the wardrobe. It goes so well with a natural colour palette and also adds in a bit of warmth to your shot if you want that glowy, post-birth glow.
How They’re Preserving Their Memories:
Karin and Jameel have ordered a series of birth announcements I will custom design so they can send them out to their friends and family.
Preparing for Your Newborn Session:
I know that your whole world has changed these first few days of newborn life. When you come into the studio, you’ll be greeted with a calming, restful atmosphere. I’ve taken every health and safety measure to make sure your baby and other children are safe and sound!
Here are a couple pro-tips to keep in mind so you can enjoy a luxurious, effortless newborn session:
Feed and burp Baby right before you come to your session –
When this happens, many babies will slumber peacefully throughout the session, which can last between 1 and 2 hours. (But we’ll never push your baby past their limits! And if you have other young children, they’re welcome to play in the studio, or have a family member pick them up when they’re done with their photos.)
When to Book Your Newborn Session:
Newborns are adorable at any age, but for those sleepy, curly images you’ll want photos done within the first 5-14 days of life. When babies get to be around two weeks old, they discover the joy of stretching out those arms and legs. Then the images we achieve together will look a little older, less curled and sleepy. That said, babies of all ages are welcome in the studio.
What are your favourite little moments of motherhood?
I love the little things. Like baby toes and little socks. Or an itty-bitty “boop” on the nose and a sweet little smile. I live for these little moments of joy.
