How I Started My Photography Business
Most people don't know this, but I actually started my business as a photographer because of a longing to remember.
When I was a single mom with my first of four babies, my sister Sherri came over with her camera. She took great photos of my daughter and I remember thinking of how much I missed the photography and darkroom classes I took in high school and college. I quickly fell back in love with photography because it made it possible for me to remember all those little details of my daughter that were changing so quickly.
At that time, I didn’t think it was possible to start my own business. I was a single mother and sole provider, so I worked a full-time office job. I graduated from college for a safe career in office administration.
But when I married my husband and a friend asked me to photograph her wedding, I was thrilled! Once I picked up photography again, I knew right away that it's what I wanted to do professionally.
It took fifteen years of hard work and dedication to become the photographer I wanted to be, and to grow my business into what it is today. I truly believe I have the best job in the world and couldn't imagine doing anything else. Working with clients who value the hard work I put into the work I do is incredibly rewarding.
About This Beautiful Family
This is Kathy and her gorgeous baby boy bump. 🥰
Kathy wanted to capture images that felt natural. Images for her master bedroom that reminded her of this pregnancy and how beautiful it was.
My makeup artist Christine came to this session to assist. She helped style the session and make sure Kathy always looked her best. Those images where you see Kathy laughing at someone off-screen? That’s Christine she’s chatting with. It was such a fun session.
I’m sure Kathy and her new baby boy Ty will remember how loved they are every time they walk into that master bedroom. We created a gorgeous wall display for above their bed. Scroll down to the bottom of this post for a peek.
Kathy’s newborn photoshoot for Tyberius is coming up next week, so stay tuned for more cuteness.

Client Testimonial
"I chose Reflections of Life of Photography when I first came across her Instagram page. The timeless look of her photos caught my eye for my maternity shoot and I'm so happy I decided to work with her.
Not only was Karen professional, she's a multitasker making sure every detail was perfect.
She makes you instantly feel comfortable and puts you at ease, she has the eye of an artist, the pictures were absolutely beautiful, but above all, she is very kind and professional.
She went above and beyond when it came time for the image reveal & deciding on custom frame artwork.
She made sure prior to your appointment that everything was covered from wardrobe, hair/make-up, your vision, or any other concerns you might have.
The studio was also spotless and very clean.
I would highly recommend Karen!! We cannot wait for her to capture our family newborn session next!" - Kathy Phan

Hi there, I'm Karen! I am obsessed with newborn baby yawns, giggling kids, and jumpsuits. I'm a mama of four who understands the busyness of everyday life. I've learned to love and enjoy it through lifestyle photography. I know what it’s like to look back on my children’s first years and feel like they flew by so quickly. I don’t want any other mamas to forget what their baby’s little fingers and toes looked like all curled up. My hope is that I can help you create albums and prints to serve as physical reminders of these sweet times throughout your baby’s early years. Contact me for info.
