Baby Names, Baby Faces and Baby Photos
The Bonds that Form
At Your Newborn Photography Session
Naming your child is one of the first gifts you give them. The name you give your child is more than a series of letters – it’s a promise that you will always call them “yours.” And newborn photography is a powerful way of illustrating that promise in images. When a child grows up with newborn photos to look at, they’ll have powerful images of the love and devotion you weaved into each letter of their name. They’ll grow up with a strong sense of belonging that you can continue to build on for the rest of their lives.
Choosing Baby Names:
Naming your baby is an important milestone moment. It’s the name you’ll call down for breakfast every morning, the name that Grandma will make nursery rhymes about, and the one their siblings will short form into various nicknames. That’s why it can feel like a lot of pressure trying to decide the perfect baby name. How long did you spend Googling “ baby names for girls” or “baby names for boys” or “rarest baby names”?
But parents, the truth is, the best name for your baby is the one you end up giving them – precisely because you blessed them with a name they will spend the rest of their lives getting to write a beautiful definition for.
And truly, what a gift that is.
Putting a Photo to Your Baby’s New Name:
I can’t wait for that moment when I get “the email” – the one where you tell me that your baby has arrived, you’re ready for your newborn session and his/her name is….
In the time between your maternity session and your newborn session, you’ve done something spectacular – you brought life into the world, and you blessed that little life with a name that is meaningful to you and your family.
After you’ve named your baby, let’s capture the perfect, tiny little face that this new name now belongs to.
Family Spotlight:
I got that exciting email from Kylee and Stephen in August of 2021, a couple of months after meeting them in their stunning sunset maternity session at Lake Ontario. Kylee messaged me to book her newborn photography session and to share the exciting news that she’d given birth to their baby boy, who they named Daxton George (Dax, for short).
Absolute perfection.
Welcome to the world, Dax!
The Moments We Captured:
My newborn sessions are all about honouring the unique bond that you have created with your child just days or weeks after they’ve arrived. You’ve given birth, your baby has a name you love, and before you get completely swept up in life with a newborn and infant – let’s take a moment to document this incredible achievement.

We can personalize photos with a meaningful token from home

Whispering “You are loved [name]” into Baby’s ear
Both parents encircling their baby with their arms while holding each other’s hands

Proud looks between Mom and Dad
What They Wore:
We styled them in their favourite outfits from the maternity photo session, which brought continuity to both the sessions for a seamless gallery wall. I love supporting my families with access to our studio wardrobe, so you don’t have to worry about shopping for the perfect outfits after you’ve given birth (you have more important things to worry about Mama!)
How they Preserved their Memories:
Gallery Walls to Display Your Maternity and Newborn Photography
We completed the gallery wall we began designing at their maternity Image Reveal, so they now have a breathtaking display in their home to announce this exciting new chapter in their family story. (I installed it in their home for them this fall so they didn’t have to lift a finger).
I have some before and after shots so you can see the transformation!

How Newborn Photography Can Bring Your Baby’s Name to Life:
There’s a special bond that begins when you name your child and continues when you come to the studio for newborn photography. At Reflections, I honour these first moments you’ve shared together as a family by making your photo session a connective experience – one that will help you continue the bond that began when you named them and promised them they would always be yours.
Helping You Enjoy the Moment:
Since I take care of coordinating the details for your photo session, like your wardrobe, hair and makeup, you can just roll out of bed and show up at your photo session! This helps my clients stay in the moment and focus on the joy of newborn life – soaking up the new baby smell, their soft skin, their baby yawns...
Natural Poses for a Comfortable Photography Experience:
The poses I walk you through are natural and comfortable so we can capture some amazing candid moments for your walls, heirloom albums and baby announcements. This also means that you’ll spend a lot of time soaking up the love language of physical touch – holding each other’s hands around Baby, kissing Baby, family snuggles and gazing into each other’s eyes (eye contact is so important in our relationships)
Moments for Conversation:
And something I love to do is prompt conversations between couples that will give them things to smile about: like, why they chose their baby’s name, or who they imagine their baby will become, and what their hopes are for their child in the future.
While we can’t have deep verbal conversations with our newborn babies yet, there are a lot of ways we can show them that our bond began early. Naming our children, and having our photos taken with them are important ways our children will always know that they are seen, loved and cherished.
Conclusion:
Names can hold so much. Family and cultural names can hold precious memories of the past. Symbolic names can hold hopes for the future. Whatever wonderful things your baby’s name holds, let’s capture those feelings in a newborn photography session that will preserve this fleeting moment forever.
About This Beautiful Family
I met these two wonderful parents at their maternity session earlier in the summer. Kylee and Stephen are settling into parenthood with their son Dax and it was such a joy to capture their sweet moments together in this newborn photography session. (And I got to see their dog Henry again when I went to their home to install their gallery wall!)

Client Testimonial
“When my significant other mentioned he wanted to do maternity photos, I instantly felt the stress of the process to get photos done. Being in photos have never really been my thing so when we found Karen we couldn’t believe the amount of effort and love she puts into her work.
Karen took all our stress away by being the “one stop shop” for photography. She had beautiful colour scheme ideas for our clothing. It was so nice not having to stress and find something just for photos to fit my baby bump and she had the impossible task of dressing my significant other who normally only wears work clothing.
When it finally came to the day of the shoot I was nervous and excited. Karen was so professional and knew exactly how to get us to laugh and smile for the perfect photos. She eased my nerves within minutes of being with her, and the shoot was so much fun and a great memory Stephen and I will share forever.
The best part was that her hard work doesn’t just stop at the photo shoot. She helped us pick frames that best fit our home decor and the photos that will be placed on my walls for years to come.
Reflections is not just a photographer. It is an experience that I highly suggest to everyone.”
