Why I Don't Need Your Kids to Behave During Your Family Photography Session

I’d love to explain. As moms, we put so much pressure on ourselves to be perfect. We compare our family to others we know and see online. You might see someone’s family portrait and think that’s not possible for you. You might believe the myth that some families are just photogenic. Or, like many of my clients with young children, you might worry about how your kids will behave during the session.
I want you to know the truth. I don’t need your kids to have perfect behaviour during the photo session. All I need are happy kids ready to have fun with their new best friend, Karen. Let me break down a few more myths and put your mind at ease.
Top Family Photography Myths
Myth 1 - Children Must be Well-Behaved - If you’re really worried about your children behaving during the session, I want to reassure you of a few things. Not only do children tend to behave better in front of other people, but I’m also a mom of four and an experienced family photographer. There’s very little that would surprise me or come up that I couldn’t handle.
Mom in the Portraits - Moms tend to be the ones taking the photos and aren’t always in them. If you ask someone else to take a photo of you and your baby, you may not like the way it turns out. Taking the time for a 6-month baby photo session ensures that you’re in the portraits with your sweet baby and that you’ll love the results.
Myth 3 - My Child Will Have to Sit Still for Portraits - No stiff posing here. I want your children to wiggle and have loads of fun during the session. These make the best candid portraits that I know you’ll treasure forever. During the session, I have many little games and props to create a fun environment for your family. But don’t worry; I will be able to get that dream family portrait without any forced poses.
Myth 4 - We Need Perfect Kids to Create Perfect Portraits - We want your children to be their real and happy selves during the session. Why? Because real and happy kids create perfect portraits. I want you to cherish these portraits forever and feel like they truly capture your children. Your children are perfect just the way they are, and these portraits will show you that.
