Safe Poses for Newborn Photography: A Guide for Parents

As a professional newborn photographer and a mom of three kids, I know those first few newborn weeks go by in a flash. Your tiny bundle doubles in size in no time! This time passes in a blur while you are feeding and changing.

That's why documenting this extraordinary time with professional photography is so important to me. We can capture these priceless moments permanently with posed newborn portraits, all the while keeping your little one safe and cozy.

The Signature Newborn Poses

What kind of poses can you expect during our session together? Although I'll tailor everything to your taste, here are some classic poses I frequently use:

The Candid Baby Photography

I believe the best pose is the one your baby naturally chooses. That’s why I take a lot of candid baby photographs that are freestyle and let the baby enjoy the freedom. These photographs capture the baby’s cute smile, lazy yawn and stretching, peaceful slumber, and much more. These photos become even more precious when the parents or the siblings are right there with the baby.

Perfect Side-Lying Portraits

These make up a big part of most of my newborn sessions. Side-lying poses like the ‘taco’ perfectly capture their squishy cheeks. I'll have them curled up tight or with a leg kicked out. Maybe an arm stretched overhead. The possibilities are endless and 100% baby-approved.

Backlit Beauties

Some of the most simple yet stunning newborn shots are with the baby lying on their back. These backlit poses highlight every little detail - from delicate lips and button noses to wrinkly feet and graceful fingers. They're textural and glowy, and as the baby is in their natural resting position, they stay calm and content.

Welcoming the Whole Family

No newborn gallery is complete without family photos. Whether it's just mom snuggling her newborn or everyone joining in, I'll guide you all into beautiful, natural-looking poses. With safe spotting practices, these shots let you enjoy the moment as they are.

The Need for Safety

Your baby's safety and comfort are most important to me. I make sure everything is ready in my studio before you even arrive.

I'm also highly experienced in reading baby's cues and knowing what to do next. If they seem unsettled in a certain position, we'll smoothly transition to something else.

Before our session, we'll talk about your vision and style preferences. But you can rely on me. Being an expert in safe posing and handling techniques, you have nothing to worry about.

A Lifetime of Memories

Professional posed photography lets us preserve the beauty and priceless connections of this irreplaceable time.

Your little one will be in the gentlest of hands. I'm here to expertly guide you every step of the way and give you the rare opportunity to exist together in the moment.
