There is a risk of not hiring a professional newborn photographer.
Of course, as a professional Niagara newborn photographer, I’m going to say that you need to hire one for your newborn photos.
However, this post is coming to you from a mom. I’m a mom to four amazing children. Portraits of my kids and family are among my most prized possessions. I wish I had hired a professional newborn photographer for each of my babies, but I didn’t. Part of the reason why is that the industry just wasn’t the same at the time. There weren’t many newborn photographers available, and it wasn’t as well known. Part of it was that I just didn’t know how important it would be to me later in life as my babies grew up.
3 Reasons Newborn Photography Isn’t the Time to DIY
1. Added Stress During Postpartum - There’s already so much happening during the postpartum period. You’re healing from birth and learning how to care for your newborn. Trying to figure out what to wear, how to take the right photos, and pose a baby is not something you should be worrying about.
2. Time Investment - If you DIY your newborn session, you’ll need to plan the session, research poses, find props (if any), decide what to wear, get yourself and your baby ready, and create a photo backdrop. After you take the photos, you’ll need to edit them, decide how to print them, order the prints, and hang them up or create your album. This is hours of work when you’ve just given birth and deserve to rest and snuggle your newborn.
3. Missed Moments - You’re spending so much time trying to document your sweet baby and capture these precious moments that you’re missing out on experiencing the moment yourself. Yes, you might be able to capture a few nice photos, but at what cost?
