How Long Does a Newborn Photography Session Last and Why?
A full-service newborn photography session is a beautiful experience for your whole family.
At Reflections Photography, we want your newborn session day to be a wonderful memory for your family and suggest setting aside the day for your experience. Take this day to soak in your newborn and celebrate your growing family.
Our goal is to create a stress-free environment where your family can relax and enjoy documenting your sweet newborn.
Let’s dive into how long a Niagara newborn photography session lasts and what to expect during the session.
How Long Does a Newborn Photography Session Last?
Typically, a newborn photography session lasts between one and a half to two hours. A few factors may require a session to go a little longer or a little shorter, but please plan on two hours. Plus, our full-service photography includes hair and makeup for mom. Our hair and makeup artist will come to your home, and you can plan on an additional hour for that.
There are a few factors that go into how much time we’ll need for your session.
Including other children in the session
Nursing breaks
Diaper changes
Changing outfits
As an experienced Niagara newborn photographer and mom of four, I know babies. I fully expect there to be breaks, so don’t stress about needing to feed your baby or tend to your little ones during the session.
At the Reflections, we only book one session per day so that your family is our only focus. There’s no rush or pressure - ever. On your day, it’s all about you!
What to Expect During a Niagara Newborn Photo Session
Each session is fully custom and adaptable to your family’s needs. I’ll share what usually happens during a newborn photography session, but please know that we go with the flow. Again, we expect to take breaks and are ready to adjust the session to your family’s needs.
First, we capture family portraits. Once everyone is ready, we’ll take family portraits with your newborn. These are your first official family portraits.
Second, each parent with the baby. After family portraits, I usually take portraits of each parent with the baby. It offers each parent a special moment with their newborn.
Third, newborn portraits. After the parent portraits, we’ll gently pose baby for her first official portrait. This gorgeous girl wasn’t asleep at first but look at how beautiful these turned out! After some snuggles from Mom, she drifted off to sleep and captured a few more.
Fourth, newborn with sibling(s). If we include older children in the newborn session, this might be where we take some sibling portraits. Sometimes I take these now or whenever it works best for all your children.
Finally, snuggling with mom and dad (and siblings). These are some of the sweetest candids from the session. I love taking the time to take snuggling portraits for you to soak in this moment with your precious baby.
This gives you a good idea of what to expect during your newborn photography session.
