Honest Newborn Photography
I’m a newborn and family photographer, using natural light during my sessions here in the studio and on location. That means during your session there are no light stands, no waiting between shutter clicks, just you and your newborn in a room full of beautiful light. There are a handful of reasons I choose to work with natural light:
No flash means there’s no startling your newborn, no waking them from their deep sleep
Your expressions will be more genuine and meaningful as you’re being photographed, you can focus on your partner and child only, free from distracting camera flashes
It’s easier to forget I’m there. This allows me to do my job at it’s best, when it’s truly candid
The light is soft and flattering, void of harsh shadows here in the studio
Since I work with it every day, I know exactly what times of day are best to highlight you and your baby’s wonderful features
Sometimes clients ask me about rescheduling, if it’s a cloudy day. I never have, as there are two large windows and with proper equipment, it’s just not necessary. I embrace the day as it is. If it was darker outside, your images may reflect that. They’re going to be honest, and that’s one of the things that makes them beautiful.
I want to capture you without distraction and without harshness. I want to capture the way the natural light simply dances upon those little cheeks and glimmers in your eyes. I want to document the movement in your hair when you turn your head toward your husband. I want to capture each of you exactly as you are, naturally, in your love for one another, in your beauty. xo
About This Newborn and Family Session
This is Amanda, Chris, and their newborn son Alexander. Our goal for their session was to capture his adorable baby features, and their new, beautiful young family.
Before their session, Amanda sent me an email with a link to her newborn session Pinterest board. It was full of the sweetest, most adorable images that show relationship, connection and love. There were images of parent and newborn hands, family holding each other so close, and squishy images of newborns simply posed all on their own. She had obviously spend a lot of time curating it, and I was so happy that she trusted me to document her family in this way.

Hi there, I'm Karen Byker from Grimsby, Ontario, Canada. I'm obsessed with newborn baby yawns, giggling kids and fancy flavoured tea.
I'm a mother of four that understands the overwhelm of the every day, but I've learned how to embrace and enjoy the beauty of it. I believe we should be able to enjoy this life we chose.
I've been a professional photographer since 2005. I've helped hundreds of mamas to slow down, pause and use photography as a reminder to take a breath.
I'd love to talk with you about documenting the beauty through your chaos. Let's chat!
