Documenting Your Baby's First Year: Milestone Photography Guide

Hi parents! I'm a newborn and family photographer based in Grimsby, Ontario. I know your baby's first year flies by in the blink of an eye. As parents, you'll want to document your little one's precious milestones. In this blog, I'll guide you on capturing your baby's magical first year. 

Maternity: Loved Even Before Birth

Before your baby even arrives, let's capture the excitement and beauty of your pregnancy. Around 32-34 weeks is ideal for your maternity shoot, showcasing your beautiful bump in all its glory. Flowy dresses, belly-holding poses, including your partner, and maybe your other kids too, will make for some unforgettable shots.

Newborn: So Little and Perfect

In the first two weeks after your baby's arrival, we'll capture their tiny, sleepy selves. Newborn shoots are all about those peaceful, curled-up poses, swaddles, and adorable close-ups of their little hands and feet. And, of course, those serene sleeping shots are a must-have.

Six Months: Smiles and Sitting Up

By six months, your baby is starting to show off their personality with smiles and has likely mastered sitting up. This stage is perfect for capturing a mix of their emerging expressions and new physical milestones. We'll use toys to get those smiles going and take advantage of their newfound sitting skills for some adorable poses.

One Year: First Birthday and Major Milestones

As we hit the one-year mark, it's time to celebrate all the major milestones, including crawling, standing, and maybe even walking. A first birthday cake smash is a fun way to mark this big day. We'll document their curiosity and joy as they explore and taste their cake, plus capture the cute mess they make. Alongside the cake smash, we'll also capture them showcasing their new skills and, of course, those precious one-year-old toothy grins.
